Auckland Council Confirms Grants to Support 2P Property Mitigations for Auckland Homeowners.

Great news for Auckland homeowners affected by severe weather events last year! The Auckland Council has stepped in to support homeowners dealing with the aftermath. Your property’s safety is a top priority, and House Lifters is here to help you understand the new grants available for Category 2P property mitigations.

Category 2P properties are homes where significant changes can reduce the risk of flooding or landslides. These changes, known as “mitigations,” might include raising your house or building a retaining wall.

What Is the Category 2P Property Risk Mitigation Scheme?

Auckland Council has launched the Category 2P Property Risk Mitigation Scheme to help homeowners like you. The scheme offers two types of grants:

Design and Consent Grant: This grant helps you get the technical advice and necessary consent to ensure your project is feasible.
Construction Grant: Once you have consent, this grant will assist you in completing the construction work.

To qualify, the total cost of the mitigation work (including both grants) must be no more than 25% of your property’s current value (CV). Plus, the work must be completed within two years.

Your Responsibilities as a Homeowner

You’re in charge of managing the work, which includes finding professional services and tradespeople to complete the job. Remember, normal building and resource consent requirements still apply for these projects.

Keeping Families in Their Homes: The most important benefit is that more families can stay in their homes and communities.

Approximately 100 to 120 properties are expected to fall under the 2P category, with the grant scheme costs shared between Auckland Council and the Crown through the co-funded Storm Recovery package.

Rod and his team were absolutely fantastic on our tricky house-lift which required trying to level the house while minimising remedial work on renovated areas. The scoping stage was very very thorough and the team were the only lifters who actually came and did a full house level measure as part of the quoting process. During the work Rod and the team were very open to feedback and really took the time to listen to our feedback and leave no stone unturned to address all items. The team were pretty patient with our needs and especially towards the end when there was some easing of doors etc. needed to complete the job and meet our high expectation bar :) I would HIGHLY recommend the team based on my experience - you will not be disappointed!

Rod, Mayo and their team not only held our old bungalow up while we excavated underneath, but they also solved some tricky problems to allow our builders work to more effectively as the job progressed. As a result we managed to complete the whole of the basement floor slab in a single pour….. something that we did not expect to be possible. They willingly made changes at short notice and nothing seemed to be too much of a problem. They were really pleasant to deal with, always responded quickly to our requests, and had a great “can do” attitude.
